6 Things to Know Before Purchasing an Industrial Platform Scale

6 Things to Know Before Purchasing an Industrial Platform ScaleAre you on the lookout for a high quality and accurate industrial platform scale? If so, then it’s time to end your search, because Arlyn Scales is the go-to place for all of your industrial scale needs. Recognized as a leader of design and manufacturing in the weighing industry, Arlyn Scales offers a wide selection of quality made industrial scales. When it comes to platform scales, Arlyn Scales supplies Standard 3200 Platform Scales, in addition to explosion proof and corrosion resistant platform scales.

Before you buy an industrial platform scale, there are a few things you should know. For example, have you ever realized just how versatile platform scales can be? Platform scales are used around the globe by companies in every type of industry for a variety of weighing applications, such as: measuring shipments, tracking the weights of animals and humans, and weighing pallets. Platform scales are used in different types of environments too, which often means the scales must be manufactured specially so they can operate safely in the environment they are placed.

There is a lot of information you should know before purchasing an industrial platform scale—so, join us as we explore the many characteristics of industrial platform scales made by Arlyn Scales.

  1. What You Get With Every Arlyn Platform Scale

Given that there are many weighing applications industrial platform scales can be used for, clearly there is not a one-size-fits-all industrial platform scale that can be used for every application. That’s why Arlyn Scales offers a wide selection of platform scales to choose from. Standard 3200 Platform Scales by Arlyn Scales are available in many sizes and constructions; however, there are a few things that come with every platform scale made by Arlyn Scales—no matter what features a customer chooses.

Stainless Steel Load Cells

Platform scales can be made entirely from aluminum or stainless steel; however, whatever construction is chosen, every platform scale made by Arlyn Scales contains 4 stainless steel load cells. Not every scale manufacturer chooses to use stainless steel load cells in the scales they offer. Arlyn Scales uses stainless steel load cells in our industrial platform scales because they allow our scales to be extremely resistant to shock loading and overloading. This means our scales can endure heavier weight loads without being damaged.

The load cells on platform scales made by Arlyn are embedded in a welded frame and a molded display enclosure. The construction of Arlyn platform scales prevents the load cells from coming into contact with water and moisture, which could otherwise damage the scales.

Platform Level

Standard 3200 Platform Scales by Arlyn Scales come in a variety of platform sizes and constructions, as we’ve already said; however, all of the weighing platforms on Arlyn’s platform scales are fixed at the same distance from the ground: 1 & 7/8 inch.

Maximum Capacity and Readability

Arlyn Scales offers a variety of platform dimensions to choose from when customers are deciding what they want for their industrial platform scales. Standard 3200 Platform Scales are available in two different maximum capacity and readability combinations, although the platform dimensions vary. Standard 3200 Platform Scales can be manufactured with a maximum capacity of 500 pounds or 1,000 pounds. Scales with a 500-pound MC have a readability of .1 pound and scales with a 1,000-pound MC have a readability of .2 pound. As you can see, the higher the maximum capacity, the slightly less accurate the weight readings will be.

  1. Scales are Manufactured From Aluminum and Stainless Steel

Standard 3200 Platform Scales are available in aluminum and stainless steel construction. Arlyn Scales recommends our customers buy aluminum scales, unless customers have specific reasons for wanting stainless steel. Aluminum is significantly less expensive than stainless steel; however, if you know that your scale is going to be susceptible to damage or abuse—whether it be from harsh chemicals or substances, or from contact with heavy equipment or loads—then choose stainless steel.

  1. Platform Dimensions Offered by Arlyn Scales

Arlyn Scales manufactures Standard 3200 Platform Scales in the following platform dimensions:

  • 20-inch by 27-inch
  • 22-inch by 44-inch
  • 27-inch by 60-inch
  • 30-inch by 30-inch
  • 36-inch by 36-inch
  • 48-inch by 48-inch

We offer additional platform sizes as well, so if you don’t see the size you want above, then contact Arlyn Scales today and we will let you know what we can do for you.

  1. Platform Scales Can Be Corrosion Resistant

Specifically designed to measure cylinders and drums of corrosive materials, corrosion resistant platform scales are available in a variety of platform dimensions and maximum capacity/readability combinations. The scales offer higher maximum capacities than Standard 3200 Platform Scales—for example, corrosion resistant platform scales are available in the following combinations:

  • Maximum Capacity: 500 pounds; Readability: .1 pound
  • Maximum Capacity: 1,000 pounds; Readability: .2 pound
  • Maximum Capacity: 5,000 pounds; Readability: 1 pound
  • Maximum Capacity: 10,000 pounds; Readability: 2 pound

The platform dimensions available for these scales are:

  • 20-inches by 27-inches
  • 36-inches by 36-inches
  • 48-inches by 48-inches
  • 60-inches by 60-inches

All of these scales are completely manufactured from stainless steel. They feature a special 3-part epoxy coating, which provides excellent corrosion resistance and prevents harsh substances from damaging the scales.

  1. Platform Scale Can Be Explosive Proof

If you are going to be operating your scale in a hazardous environment, then Arlyn Scales’ intrinsically safe ArlynGuard P scale is for you. These scales operate on low power and do not have any external power cords attached. They are designed to operate safely in environments where there is a high risk of fires and explosions because of the presence of flammable or explosive materials.

ArlynGuard P scales are available in the same platform dimensions and maximum capacities/readabilities as Standard 3200 Platform Scales. Learn more about explosive proof industrial platform scales on Arlyn Scales’ website.

  1. There are Many Connectivity Options Available

Last, but certainly not least, you should know there are many connectivity options and add-on features available for platform scales manufactured by Arlyn Scales.

Connecting your scale to a nearby computer and Internet network can help your company keep track of weight readings and data. Arlyn Scales can manufacture scales with Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB, or Bluetooth connection.

Once a scale is connected to a computer, the data from the scale can be communicated to the computer where it can then be imported into various Microsoft programs for analysis, like Microsoft Excel or Access.

We also provide a number of add-on options for our scales that improve the efficiency and overall operation of our scales. For example, our Set-Point Controller helps companies automatically fill and dispense containers of liquid.
