Different Industrial Uses for Drum Scales

optimize your business's performance with customized high-resolution scalesMaterial in drums is commonly used in many different industrial applications, and controlling these materials is important for process control and employee safety. One way of helping to maintain this control is through the use of drum scales.

If you are using materials in your industrial application that are stored in drums, then you will want to investigate the uses for drums scales in your process. Drum scales are ideal for measuring the correct level of liquids in drums, which can allow you to better control your overall process and material usage.

Standard Drum Scales: For Many Different Processes and Industries

Apart from needing your drum scale to be durable and accurate, you also want one that is easy to load and unload. Industrial drum scales from Arlyn Scales are equipped with a ramp for easy loading and unloading as a standard feature, which allows for effortless loading to a scale height of only 1 7/8”. It is simple to roll drums, pails, canisters and other items onto the platform of the scale for measuring, and equally easy to remove them once you are done.

Along with this important feature, these scales include the equally important design feature of being rail-less in order to allow the load to overhang the edge of the scale. With this unique design, you can easily weigh larger items that would otherwise interfere with the side rails. As with all Arlyn scales, there are many different connectivity options to interface with the drum scale, including USB, Ethernet, RS-232 and WiFi. These allow you to utilize computer control and data monitoring.

For accuracy and durability, Arlyn Scales uses stainless steel load sensors in these scales so that you won’t have to worry about a failure of these hard working components. Machined from stainless steel and embedded in the corners of the scale, these heavy-duty units will continue to function under the most difficult conditions in a factory situation. This combined with the modern digital techniques used to provide the best and most accurate weight readings, make these scales indispensible in the industrial environment.

  • Series 3250 Industrial Drum Scale with Ramp and Stainless Steel Sensors: Our standard drum scales come in two capacity sizes: 500 lbs. (227kg, model 325D) and 1,000 lbs. (454 kg, model 325M). These scales have a resolution of 0.1 lb. (0.05kg) and 0.2 lb. (1.0 kg) respectively, and an accuracy of 0.1% of the full-scale capacity for very precise and accurate measurements.

The platform size is 36” by 36” by 1 7/8” high with an included ramp of 36” by 18” for easy loading and unloading. This unit is water-resistant with a sealed housing, operates in a temperature range of 14°F to 104°F, and has an easily readable graphics display with 1” high LCD digits with status annunciators.

Set Point Control: Using Your Drum Scale to Control Process Inputs

One way to best utilize a drum scale is to incorporate one of our set point controllers and relays into your process. The set point controller can use the accurate weight measurements of the material in your drums to automate filling operations, valve controls and other process steps to ensure that the right amount of material is delivered to the right part of the process when it is needed.

Different Industrial Uses for Drum Scales

The set point controller is able to manage up to 8 relays with many different set points. Relays are available in AC (117 VAC) or DC (24 VDC) varieties to easily integrate with the rest of your process equipment. By using these controls, you can make sure that your process is safer for employees by removing manual material addition steps, and you can improve your process by better controlling the accuracy of these additions.

By monitoring the weight of the remaining material in the drum, you will also better ensure that you do not run out or not have enough material for your next addition. This can save you a lot of down time by allowing you to know that a drum needs to be replaced before it is completely empty and the process flow is interrupted.

Explosion Proof Drum Scales: When You Need to Control Materials in Hazardous Environments

If you are using your scales in a process that has a risk of explosion, fire or other hazards, Arlyn Scales has the right scale to help you with this concern, as well. Arlyn produces the ArlynGuard scales that are intrinsically safe for these applications and approved for many hazardous environments. No scale is safer for these environments than our ArlynGuard line of explosion proof scale for hazardous environments.

The ArlynGuard scales are available in bench models, cylinder models, platform models and floor models for any application you may find necessary. Ideal for applications from distillery lab benches to chemical workshops, these scales can help improve the safety in your process when using hazardous materials.
