The defense industry requires equipment that is dependable, reliable and suited for the intense nature of volatile chemicals that are an integral part of processing. Chemicals such as aluminum, magnesium, boron, silicon, titanium, zinc, zirconium and tungsten are used in the manufacturing process. Salts such as ammonium, barium, calcium, lead, potassium, sodium and strontium are used in the propulsion systems amongst other applications. The use of technical acacia, asphalt, charcoal, polyvinyl chloride, technical dextrin, dry graphite, and antimony sulfide aids in manufacturing of many of the defense industries materials. Upholding the stringent requirements of handling these flammable and noxious materials is just one aspect of the weighing industry at which Arlyn Scales excels. We have been onboard with all aspects of industrial applications for over three decades. Our hands on manufacturing process ensures the highest quality products for the best prices. We manufacture all or our own subassemblies enabling us to have tight rein on quality control. Our New York based factories are prepared to handle manufacturing of scales with customized solutions.
What Is Needed
Our industry experience dictates the specifications for each of our scales. For the best quality Corrosion Resistant Scale, we provide complete stainless steel construction. There are applications where aluminum can be used successfully but due to the nature of the chemicals, stainless steel provides the non-corrosive characteristic that is imperative. We manufacture our own stainless steel load cells. Designed and manufactured to detailed specifications ensures that the right sensors are used for the right application. Instead of bolting them to the bottom of the scale’s platform, as most manufacturers are apt to do, we place the load cells in the four corners of the scale in machine pocked housing. We then seal to the load cell electronics to further protect the load cells against moisture and corrosion due to product contamination. We chose four load cells with precisely equalized output values in order to eliminate the need of a summation board. This methodology allows for a low profile platform and eliminates the need for repairs and tune-ups. Placing and removing cylinders, drums, pallets and the like can cause damage to the load cells with accidental hits. The low profile of this scale adds to the fact that shock and overload damage is less likely to occur.
Stainless Steel Through and Through
We continue the use of stainless steel in the manufacturing of our corrosion resistant platforms. The Series 320 comes in a variety of sizes and capacities to cover most all applications. Our five hundred pound capacity scales with one tenth of a pound resolution come with platform sizes twenty inches by twenty-seven inches and thirty-six inches by thirty-six inches. The one thousand pound capacity scales with two-tenths of a pound resolution are offered in the same platform sizes as the five hundred pound capacity scales, twenty by twenty-seven inches and thirty-six inches square. The larger capacity scales, five thousand and ten thousand pound capacities, have resolutions of one pound and two pounds respectively. The platform size for the five thousand pound scale is forty-eight inches square and the platform for the ten thousand pound scale measures sixty inches square. To further protect the scale’s platform, we add a triple layer epoxy coating containing mica and garnet particles. The mica ensures protection against corrosion and the garnet glass-like particles ensure that there will be no slippage of the weighing items, nor scratching of the actual surface of the scale. In order to maintain the most accurate and precise weight information, it is important to choose the correct scale for your weight loads. Choosing a scale with a capacity according to your maximum load size will also ensure shock and overload damage protection. We have installed a device that notifies the user when the scale has reaches one hundred and two percent capacity. This 320 series is rated to one hundred and fifty percent capacity.
Out of the Box
We include a dynamic scale indicator that is automatically calibrated. This 32bit RISC easy to program indicator can be placed on a wall or on a bench top. With seven weight unit conversions, a five-digit graphics display, and pushbutton tare and zero functions with memory, this programmable indicator is ready to provide up to eight set point targets for filling and batching operations, just to name one of the operations.
Power Source
The optional rechargeable battery source is the way to go for workplaces where electricity may be compromised. Out in the field operations are possible with this six-cell NiMH battery pack, which provides up to twenty hours of service on a four-hour peak charge.
Data Communication
Computer access is offered with this series in either the USB or Ethernet format. For the completely technical set, we also offer wireless Ethernet capabilities. The protocols RS-232 and RS-485 allow for bidirectional interface between computers, printers, programmable logic controllers and the scales. Issuing commands and capturing solidly accurate data is what the RS-232 does best. With the use of an internal lithium battery, users can add a time and date stamp option. Time, day of the week and date information can be assembled for complex printed label outputs. Included with every scale’s operating software is a print frame definition editor application, which provides a choice of label formats. The RS-485 is a long distance multi drop protocol, which allows for tethering of up to ten scales. Operations over a distance of four thousand feet make this USB option the way to control over ten scales with one computer. Arlyn Scales provides these Series 320 scales to suit the majority of applications that the defense industry is responsible for. However, all aspects of these scales can be altered to adjust to the exact specifications of the intended application. Our team of engineers is equipped to implement the proper options to enhance the operational value of these scales, from platform size and capacity to different connectivity options.
